Update: Man, 57, killed in Fort Pierce crash on SR-91
FORT PIERCE, FL – Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed additional details regarding the fatal crash on Florida’s Turnpike Monday.
The collision was reported after 7:30 p.m. near mile marker 161, WPTV revealed.
One driver was traveling north on the Turnpike while three other drivers were heading south. There was an issue with a tire on the first car. The tire issue prompted the driver of that car, a 40-year-old woman, and the passenger, an 83-year-old man, to leave the road and come into a median of grass.
The front of the woman’s car crashed into a guardrail and became airborne. The vehicle then came into the southbound lanes, turned counterclockwise, and rolled over before colliding with a second vehicle.
The impact of the collision between vehicle one and two caused vehicle one to become airborne again and crash into a third vehicle.
Then a fourth vehicle – a tractor-trailer – sideswiped vehicle one as it entered a southbound inside lane.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 33-year-old man from Margate, sustained minor injuries. The woman from the first car, her passenger, and the second car’s driver, a 44-year-old man from Orlando, were transported to HCA Lawnwood Florida Hospital.
The driver of the third automobile, a 57-year-old man from Lakeland, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
