Woman arrested for Palm Beach hit-and-run that critically hurt cyclist
PALM BEACH, FL – A 76-year-old woman was arrested for causing a hit-and-run crash that injured a 62-year-old male cyclist Tuesday, CBS 12 said
The woman, identified as Ellen Schapps Richman, had hit the cyclist before 9:30 a.m. on the 700th block of Country Club Road. She did not render aid to the man and continued driving. The cyclist was dragged several feet, and his bike was left with a broken headlight and a damaged bumper cover retention clip.
Richman was found taking a golf lesson at Palm Beach Country Club. She claimed she was unaware that she struck the cyclist. She was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash with injury. She is expected to appear in court sometime in the near future, police said.
The cyclist’s current physical condition is unknown. However, at the time of the reporting, authorities said he was sent to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for treatment of a compound fracture to his tibia and fibula and numerous other injuries.
