Woman, 42, fatally struck by Tri-Rail train in Lake Worth
LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL – A 42-year-old woman failed to reduce her speed when driving around stopped traffic, prompting her to get fatally struck by a Tri-Rail train Monday.
The Palm Beach Post said the crash happened at Sixth Avenue. The driver of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz came toward a red light at Sixth Avenue South and did not lower her speed, and collided with the train safety gate arm, going on the train tracks.
The train conductor could not stop and collided with the driver’s side of the car.
The 65 passengers on the train were spared from harm and evacuated before boarding another train. However, the Mercedes Benz driver, who was identified as Shannon Flowers, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
