Update: Hit-and-run driver arrested after crash that hurt scooter rider
MIAMI, FL – A 21-year-old woman, a hit-and-run driver, who was responsible for causing a crash that critically injured a scooter rider on Monday has been arrested, CBS News confirmed Thursday.
The hit-and-run crash happened at 11:30 p.m. The 21-year-old, identified as Armani Rodgers, had proceeded through the intersection of NE 5 Avenue and 79 Street and then rear-ended a scooter rider. The female scooter operator, 23, fell to the ground and was later rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The victim is recovering from critical injuries.
Preliminary details from Miami Police show that the collision happened around 11:30 p.m. After Rodgers hit the woman, she reportedly stopped and, with her passenger, exited the car — a gray Nissan Altima — and fled the scene on foot. Rodgers returned a short time later to remove the Nissan’s license plate and ran away again.
Police later confirmed Rodgers had stolen the car from her aunt, who did not give her permission to operate her vehicle. Rodgers also turned herself in on Wednesday.
