Update: 2 dead following I-95 wreck near Palm City

NEAR PALM CITY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that a 57-year-old Port St. Lucie man and a 39-year-old Daytona Beach man were killed in the wrong-way crash on I-95 Monday

New details from WPTV show that a 25-year-old Port St. Lucie woman was driving a gray 2022 Toyota Rav4 south on northbound I-95 when the Rav4 collided head-on with a red 2025 Nissan Altima. As a result of the impact, the Altima rotated clockwise and went over the northbound lanes before coming to a stop.

Moments later, the Port St. Lucie man, who was driving a blue 2006 Toyota Tacoma, swerved out of his lane to avoid debris from the wreck. During that maneuver, he lost control of his car, causing it to rotate left, cross the median, and slam into a tree.

The Port St. Lucie man and Daytona Beach man were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 25-year-old woman, who sustained non-life-threatening wounds, was transported by Martin County Fire Rescue crews to Lawnwood Hospital for treatment.

Florida Highway Patrol officials are working to determine why the woman was driving the wrong way. At this time, no charges or citations have been announced.
