Suspect in custody after crashing stolen car on FL’s Turnpike

NEAR MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A driver who was said to have stolen a silver Alfa Romeo sedan and then crashed on Florida’s Turnpike Friday has been taken into custody.

NBC Miami said a pursuit began after they tried to conduct a traffic stop and when the suspect fled. The chase ceased when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper initiated a Precision Immobilization Technique. As a result, the suspect crashed the vehicle.

The suspect, a man whose identity has not been disclosed, surrendered. He put his hands up and went down on the ground. Authorities arrested him and then took him into custody.

It is unclear what the charges will consist of and if anyone was injured.

Updates will be posted should they become available.
