Person dies as alleged DUI driver crashes car into Belle Glade Canal
BELLE GLADE, FL – A 24-year-old man, who was said to have been impaired, crashed his car into a canal, which claimed his passenger’s life and ended in him facing several charges.
WPTV said this solo collision was reported before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, it happened when the 24-year-old man failed to maintain his lane on westbound State Road 880 (specifically the 29632nd block) and then drifted into the eastbound lanes and crashed into a deep embankment. As a result, the car overturned until it came to rest in the canal.
The impact had caused the passenger, identified as 19-year-old Yoskarlin Batista Leon, a Belle Glade local, to get trapped in the canal and then succumb to fatal wounds and injured the driver, whose name was not released.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has yet to disclose the specifics of these charges.
