One life claimed in crash with hit-and-run suspect in West Palm Beach
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – A 27-year-old man died after he was hit by two vehicles, one of which fled the scene while crossing Broadway and 40th Street Sunday.
This collision happened after 9:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes, CBS-12 said. The man was first struck by an SUV. That driver immediately fled the scene, and a short time later, the pedestrian was hit by a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Toyota waited for police to arrive at the scene and cooperated with investigators while an ambulance rushed the walker, later identified as Ronaldo Hernandez-Velasquez, from Riviera Beach to St. Mary’s Trauma Center. There, Hernandez-Velasquez succumbed to fatal wounds.
The SUV driver is going to be met with criminal charges for fleeing the scene of a crash that resulted in death.
The West Palm Beach Police Department launched an investigation and is actively working to find out the identity of the fleeing motorist.
