One killed when van enters retention pond
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A man was killed on Friday after his van crashed into a Miami-Dade retention pond, Local 10 News reports.
The victim was driving near the intersection of Southwest 117th Avenue and Eighth Street when he swerved to avoid an accident with another vehicle. He then lost control of his van, flipped over, and landed in an alligator-infested retention pond.
Police rescued him and a female passenger from the water, assisted by snipers watching for alligators, and rushed both to Kendall Regional Hospital, where the driver later passed away.
The woman remains in critical condition.
