Man loses life following West Palm Beach box truck, SUV wreck

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Two men driving and operating an Isuzu box truck collided with an SUV, leading one of them to their death and critically injuring the other Wednesday.

West Palm Beach Police told WPTV that the events unfolded when the box truck driver, going west on East Summa Street, had drifted into the northbound lanes of South Dixie Highway (in the 7300th block) and plowed into the moving SUV. Since the men did not wear seatbelts, they were thrown from the truck as a result. Ambulance personnel were quick to take them to St. Mary’s Medical Center. There it was, 24-year-old Gaspar Lopez Hernandez, an Indiantown resident, who passed away.

Police did not specify whether Hernandez was the truck driver or passenger but did state that the SUV driver was spared from injuries and indicated that no criminal charges would be filed

Due to the severity of this wreck, officers shut down South Dixie Highway for several hours for the scene clearance process and their investigation and have reopened the area since.
