Man, 79, dies after crash caused by alleged medical episode

LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL – A 79-year-old man died after he was suspected of suffering a medical episode, leading him to crash into two stationary cars Sunday.

This collision happened before 2:15 p.m. on the 320th block of Columbia Drive, adjacent to Dixie Highway, according to WPTV.

The 79-year-old man, who was later identified as Romero Cortez, drove a 2019 Chevy Impala and turned east on Columbia Drive before crashing into a parked 2014 Toyota Corolla (legally parked). After hitting the Toyota Corolla, Cortez then proceeded to hit a curb, then went onto the sidewalk and struck the second stationary vehicle — a 2014 Ford Edge.

The force of the crash then led the Ford Edge and 2014 Toyota Corolla to stop in a driveway (it is unclear whether it was public or private).

Upon arrival, first responders rushed Cortez to HCA Florida JFK Hospital in Atlantis, where he died.
