Local woman dies after plowing into Port St. Lucie home
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – An 87-year-old local woman lost her life after she drifted off SE Woodbine Road and plowed into a home last Thursday.
Port St. Lucie police told CBS 12 that the collision happened before 4 p.m. said the woman was operating a beige Toyota Corolla. Prior to crashing into the house, the elderly lady stopped along the Veranda Preserve Boulevard and then continued driving. Officials believed the woman suffered a medical episode as she was operating the vehicle, leading her to lose control of it before the collision unfolded.
EMS crews hurried the local woman to a nearby hospital. There, she succumbed to her injuries. She has since been identified as Zelpha Watson.
The collision did not compromise the structural integrity of the home, and the house’s occupants appeared to have been unharmed.
Police confirmed speed and intoxication were not contributing factors in Thursday’s wreck.
On a related note, authorities responded to an incident that also involved a driver crashing into a Port St. Lucie home last week. No one died as a result of this wreck, but at least one person sustained unspecified injuries.
