Head-on pursuit in Port St. Lucie kills semi driver, FHP trooper
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a semi-truck driver lost their lives after the trooper crashed head-on into the truck while trying to pull over a felony Friday.
This incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the area of I-95 and Crosstown Parkway. Florida Highway Patrol told WPBF that the events of the collision unfolded when the suspect was driving dangerously on the freeway.
When the felony — a man whose name was not released — made a U-turn, he started driving the wrong way. The trooper, who was identified as 26-year-old Zachary Fink, followed the suspect. As Fink continued to go, he struck a semi-truck head-on.
The suspect still drove the wrong way before crashing and then fled the scene on foot. Authorities eventually caught him. There has been no official word on his charges at this time.
Fink and the semi-motorist (whose name was not released) succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene.
