Fiery semi rollover crash in Miami-Dade Co. injures at least 1

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A driver lost control of their tractor-trailer Thursday, causing the truck to overturn and catch fire during a multi-vehicle crash that injured at least one person.

According to WSVN, this wreck happened around 8:30 a.m. on Florida’s Turnpike extension. After striking several vehicles, the motorist also struck a concrete barrier, which resulted in diesel fuel spilling onto the road and leaving skid marks.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue extinguished the flames at the scene and were also joined by the Florida Highway Patrol and a medical helicopter team.

First responders airlifted a person to an area hospital for treatment of “bilateral broken arms,” injuries authorities deemed to be “non-life-threatening.”

Officials did not confirm whether it was the truck driver or another party who had sustained injuries.

Due to the severe nature of this wreck, officials temporarily closed off the northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike to accommodate the fuel clean-up, vehicle clearance, investigation, and the arrival and departure of the medical helicopter. All lanes have reopened since.
