Driver ignores traffic sign, causing deadly Miami Gardens wreck

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Police said an Infinity driver ignored a traffic signal when they collided with an orange Ford Taurus, claiming the driver of the Ford Tuesday.

NBC Miami said this collision happened before 4:15 a.m. at the Northwest 183rd Street and 22nd Avenue junction. The impact of this collision had damaged the Taurus’ left side, taken off the front bumper, and sustained some broken windows, while the gray Infinity hood was damaged and the windshield was broken. In addition, the Infinity had collided with a bus stop “on the north side of the street.”

Police said an ambulance took the Infinity driver to a hospital while they declared the Ford driver dead at the scene. Family members of the Ford driver have publicly identified him as 21-year-old Mekhi Hoosein Quiles.

Officers who started an investigation said Quiles was going south on NW 22nd Avenue while the Infinity driver was going west on NW 18th Street. They closed the east and westbound lanes of Miami Gardens Drive.
