Car submerges into West Palm Beach Canal, claiming life of officer
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – An off-duty police officer for the West Palm Beach Police Department lost his life after he crashed his car into a canal Sunday.
WPTV said this single-vehicle collision happened before 5:30 a.m. in the area of Congress Avenue and Lombard Street. Preliminary details suggest the collision unfolded when the driver of the Ford Fusion drifted off the road and collided with a guardrail prior to coming in contact with a tree, then overturning and coming into the canal.
Upon arrival, officials said the driver, Joshua Tyree Ballesteros, was still inside the car. They freed him and then first responders conducted CPR on Ballesteros before sending him to St. Mary’s Medical Center where he later died.
Emergency crews did close the southbound lanes of Congress for the scene clearance and investigation process, and later reopened the area for traffic.
