Driver arrested after fatal Fort Pierce accident

FORT PIERCE, FL – A driver who fled the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian in Fort Pierce has been arrested and charged, CBS 12 reports. 

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning on US-1 southbound near West Midway road. A 55-year-old man was walking his dog when he was hit by a driver, who then fled the scene.

The victim and his dog both died at the scene. The driver, a 53-year-old man, was later stopped and arrested by police. He is being charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
