2 critically injured in suspected DUI crash in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, FL – Authorities responded to a major injury collision involving a DUI suspect early Friday in Miami Beach, according to Local 10.

The wreck occurred on the westbound side of the MacArthur Causeway, near Terminal Island, at around 12:30 a.m.

Miami Beach police say the suspect was driving a a high rate of speed westbound on the causeway. At one point, they failed to negotiate a turn, causing their vehicle to lose control and collide with another car that was stopped in the westbound lanes.

The force of the impact sent the victim vehicle into the eastbound side of the roadway, causing multiple lanes in both directions to close.

According to officials, the suspect driver was arrested for an investigation into DUI.

Two people–one from each involved vehicle–were rushed by Miami Beach Fire Department crews to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Both patients were listed in critical condition.
