Light pole hits big rig, causing rollover wreck in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, FL – A light pole came tumbling down and struck a moving semi-truck, causing the big rig to roll over and entrap the driver Thursday.

The collision happened on the southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike along Hollywood Boulevard, Local 10 said. The news source’s reporter, Ray Ramos, and another driver saw what happened and rushed to the truck driver’s aid.

Ramos said the motorist’s legs were sticking out, and the other good samaritan used metal shears to try and extricate the man. The man was able to escape and did not suffer any injuries in the process.

Florida Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene, said the crews had to shut down a majority of the lanes, only leaving one lane open to allow for the flow of traffic. During the closures, crews were able to obtain the truck’s wine container, which fell into a ditch, and removed it from the crash site.
