Wrong-way driver fatally hits 23-year-old man in Miramar

MIRAMAR, FL – A 23-year-old man succumbed to fatal wounds when he was hit head-on by a grey Honda Element SUV going the wrong way on FL’s Turnpike Thursday.

NBC Miami said this collision took place around 1:45 a.m. after Red Road when the driver of the Honda, a 55-year-old woman from Hialeah, drove southbound on the northbound lanes and struck the man’s vehicle, a 2016 Honda Civic, head-on.

The 23-year-old man from Cutler Bay did his best to avoid this crash. However, circumstances proved impossible, and the vehicles collided, causing the Civic to spin uncontrollably and the Element to strike a concrete barrier before flipping over.

Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the man died at the scene and said the woman sustained “incapacitating injuries,” although did not say if EMS crews hurried her to the hospital.

The source said the impact also caused the car to land on its side, and one vehicle also showcased a broken windshield. After arriving, crews shut down all southbound and northbound lanes between Red Road and University Drive. During these closures, motorists were asked to take Red Road.
