2 PBSO deputies dead, 1 left critically hurt after crash off Southern Blvd near Loxahatchee

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – A woman crashed her SUV into a trio of Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office motorcycles Thursday near Loxahatchee, claiming the lives of two deputies, according to CBS 12.

The double-fatal wreck occurred off a stretch of Southern Boulevard near Seminole Pratt Whitney Road.

Officials say three three deputies were in the area to watch for speeders. One deputy was having trouble with their motorcycle’s potentially dead battery when two other deputies pulled over to assist with a jumpstart. The suspect was driving an SUV eastbound on the roadway when she quickly approached a slower vehicle ahead. In an attempt to avoid a crash, the woman veered off the roadway, causing the SUV to strike a guardrail before it went on to hit the three motorcycles and the deputies.

First responders rushed all three deputies by trauma helicopters to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Shortly after, two of the deputies succumbed to their injuries. Officials say the third deputy remains in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, but it was unclear whether she had to be hospitalized.

Part of Southern Boulevard was shut down west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road during the response and investigation.
