6 hospitalized after school bus-trash truck crash in Hialeah
HIALEAH, FL – Three adults, trash truck occupants, and three children on board a school bus were all sent to local hospitals after their vehicles collided Tuesday.
The impact of this collision, which occurred around 2 p.m. at East First Avenue and 60th Street, had led both vehicles to hit a residential fence, according to Local10. After this crash, two of the garbage truck occupants were thrown from the truck, while one, either entrapped or pinned required extrication.
First responders said the dump truck passengers were all transported via a medical helicopter to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, while the three children were taken to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Hialeah Fire Rescue said the hospitalized children were being treated for minor wounds but did not disclose the physical conditions of the truck occupants.
The 12 other children and the school bus driver also suffered minor wounds.
The bus is affiliated with F. Couceiro School Bus Inc., a company based in Hialeah, but operated by a greater organization, the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Hialeah Police have not specified the exact cause of this crash nor mentioned any pending citations or charges.
The Florida Highway Patrol was also summoned to the scene.
