Driver killed when big rig hits bridge, catches on fire in Hialeah
HIALEAH, FL – A driver of a big rig passed away in a fiery tractor-trailer that happened after they crashed into a guardrail and two structural pillars Thursday.
Local 10 said that the driver had struck two support beams on the Miami Gardens Drive bridge while traveling on I-75 South after 5 p.m. Florida Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene, said the driver was unable to escape the fiery vehicle and was killed inside.
After arriving, troopers and crews had to shut down I-75 and advised drivers to take Florida’s Turnpike so they could clear the area and investigate the scene. They have reopened all lanes since.
The Florida Department of Transportation was also called to the area to investigate whether any damage had taken place. They did not confirm whether the bridge was affected.
