Driver fatally hits 5-year-old girl on scooter in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – A 5-year-old girl riding a scooter lost her life after she was run over and hit by a pickup truck on South Military Trail Sunday.

CBS 12 said this collision happened around 7:30 p.m. (south of Cresthaven Boulevard in a mobile park home complex) as the driver pursued a right-hand curve.

The driver stayed at the scene and told the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office that a parked truck and trailer were blocking his view, leading him to unintentionally strike the girl’s scooter. The little girl fell off her scooter when the vehicle made contact with it.

Deputies did not clarify if the young girl died at the collision site or if she was sent to a hospital, where she passed away.

The sheriff’s office launched an investigation and did not specify if the driver would be cited or charged.
