Minibike, pickup truck crash in Fort Pierce claims life of teen

FORT PIERCE, FL – A driver of a 2023 Ford F-250 pickup truck ran a stop sign and collided with a 14-year-old boy riding a mini bike, who later passed away Friday.

WPTV said this collision happened after 7 p.m. at the Birch Street and Soltman Avenue intersection. The impact threw the 14-year-old boy and one other rider with him from their bikes.

Police said upon arrival, the other bike riders, the one who was ejected and two mini bike riders (on a second bike), were nowhere to be found. It appeared they took off, and the other ejected person had allegedly taken off with the damaged bike ridden by the 14-year-old boy.

First responders had rushed the 14-year-old boy to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where he succumbed to fatal wounds.

The pickup truck occupants remained at the scene and were able to walk away unharmed.

Authorities started an investigation and have not included other details, including whether the driver got a look at the other riders before they took off.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
