Crews respond after semi catches fire on I-95 in Fort Pierce
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — A major semi-truck fire early Friday in Fort Pierce prompted a response from St. Lucie County Fire District crews, according to CBS12.
The incident was reported on a stretch of I-95 at mile marker 139, more than a mile north of Indrio Road (FL-614). Fire district officials were alerted to a report about a tractor-trailer on fire at around 12:15 a.m.
It’s unclear whether mechanical issues or a collision sparked the blaze, but firefighters arrived on the scene to find the big rig completely engulfed in flames. While the fire was quickly extinguished, crews stayed on the scene until about 2:15 a.m. to tend to potential hot spots due to a high risk of resurgence.
No injuries were immediately reported following the event.
