Male pedestrian dies following hit-and-run in Miami’s Little Havana

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — A 40-year-old man succumbed to injuries suffered in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash Tuesday night in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, reports Local 10.

Miami Police said the incident took place near Southwest Eighth Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street at about 8:39 p.m.

An early investigation found that the man was on foot and crossing north to south on Eighth Street at Eighth Court when he was hit by an unknown vehicle that then fled the scene.

The victim was rushed by Miami Fire Rescue crews to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to the MPD, had the driver remained at the scene, they would not have been cited because the man had crossed the road in an area not designated for pedestrians. Because the suspect left the scene, they face criminal charges.

As of Wednesday, officials confirmed they were able to locate a vehicle abandoned in the area of Coral Way and Southwest 14th Avenue that appears to be linked to the incident, based on its front-end damage.

Miami Police asks anyone with information to reach out to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
