Wrong-way crash kills five, driver charged
MIAMI, FL – A driver who entered the Palmetta Expressway the wrong way caused an accident that killed five people has been arrested, CBS Miami reports.
The 30-year-old suspect entered the westbound lanes travelling east in a Silver Infiniti around 4:30 a.m.
Shortly thereafter, he crashed head-on into a Honda Accord. The Accord had five occupants in between the ages of 18 and 25, all of whom were killed.
The suspect sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was later arrested. He was been charged with five counts of vehicular homicide.
It is not clear whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
