3 hospitalized after crash with fiery machinery in Miami
MIAMI, FL – Two motorists were hospitalized for minor wounds, while another driver was sent to a trauma center right after heavy machinery caught on fire Monday.
A driver of a vehicle was pulling a flatbed trailer, which had heavy machinery on board, on Florida’s Turnpike near Southwest Eighth Street, WSVN said. For reasons unclear, the machine caught on fire.
Firefighters had to separate the machine from the trailer prior to extinguishing the flames. After that was done, crews and rainy conditions were able to cast out the fire once and for all. Despite the fire termination, smoke still lingered, and three drivers on the road got distracted by the smoke, which then led to the three-vehicle collision, causing one car to skid across the Turnpike.
Due to the nature of this wreck, delays on the southbound lanes were expected as crews pursued their investigation. Three lanes have reopened since.
