3-auto crash in Miami knocks down light pole, sends 5 to hospital
MIAMI, FL – At least one driver was said to have been speeding, leading to a three-vehicle wreck that caused a light pole to knock down and sent five people to a hospital Friday.
WSVN said this collision happened in the afternoon at Northwest 12th Avenue and Northwest 62nd Street. A water break also occurred which initiated a response from Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department crews.
The impact caused one person to be either pinned or entrapped. Fire crews had to extricate that person and then sent them and four others to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center.
The extricated person is recovering from critical, life-threatening wounds and one from serious injuries.
The three other occupants are listed in stable condition, although officials did not disclose the severity of the injuries they sustained.
Due to the nature of this wreck, authorities closed the area between Northwest 11th and 13th Avenues and between 61st and 63rd for the scene clearance and investigation process.
An investigation is underway. No additional details have been added at this time.
