22-year-old killed after crashing into canal in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – WPTV5 News reports that a 22-year-old male driver was killed after crashing his vehicle into a canal in West Palm Beach on Monday morning.

Authorities say the accident took place shortly before 4:00 a.m. in the 1300 block of Parker Avenue when the 22-year-old driver, Andy Armenteros Leyva, plunged his car into a canal on the west side of the road. He was driving a 2018 Mazda 6.

First responders dove into the waterway, pulled the driver from his vehicle, and began performing CPR on him at the scene. Armenteros Leyva was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center for treatment, where he was then pronounced dead.

Police currently believe the driver may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the accident. The Palm Beach County medical examiner has not confirmed or denied that information at this time.
