1 hurt, 1 in critical condition after Palm City head-on crash
PALM CITY, FL – A driver of a 2017 GMC South was left in critical condition, and a semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries after a head-on crash Wednesday.
TC Palm said this collision took place before 10 a.m. on Florida’s Turnpike when the pickup truck driver had gone through a U-turn slot and began driving south on the northbound lanes of the Turnpike. As a result, they crashed head-on into the 2007 Freightliner semi-truck.
As a result, the GMC driver was thrown from his pickup truck.
Upon arrival, first responders airlifted the GMC driver to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where he is recovering.
The semi-truck driver was also hospitalized. He was taken by ground to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital for treatment of minor wounds.
Florida Highway Patrol and Martin County Fire Rescue were summoned to the scene.
Troopers are in the early stages of their investigation and have not provided more information regarding Wednesday’s crash.
