Man, Woman Injured In 3-Vehicle Crash On Eighth Street And 20th Avenue
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash at a busy residential intersection injured two people and closed both roads as deputies looked into the crash.
A light blue Chevrolet Astro van, a blue Kia SUV and a gray Kia sedan were all involved in the crash at Eighth Street and 20th Avenue, south of Vero Beach Elementary School.
Fire rescue crews took people from two of the three vehicles to hospitals.
Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Joe Kovaleski said the driver of the Chevy van was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce in serious condition. A sheriff’s office posting on social media said the man had a “severe head injury.”
Kovaleski said a woman in the blue Kia SUV that rolled over in the crash was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital for observation.
A deputy said traffic was redirected around the crash at Fourth and 12th streets. Eastbound traffic on Eighth Street bypassed the area through nearby church access roads.
Deputy Ross Partee said law enforcement would keep the roads closed until they had done “a thorough investigation.”
The Chevy van had front-end damage and was stopped in the intersection facing north on 20th Avenue.
The Kia SUV was stopped on the west-facing sidewalk of 20th Avenue and the Kia car was stopped in the southbound lane at the intersection of 8th Street.
None of the people involved in the crash were identified. No other information was available at the time of this report.
