Joseph Lasorda Killed In Boca Raton Crash
The brother of famed Los Angeles Dodgers manager, Joseph Lasorda, died when his car turned into the path of a Boca Raton police SUV, authorities said.
A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report says, 8-year-old Joseph Lasorda of Boca Raton was driving north on Military Trail near Potomac Road when he turned left in front of an unmarked Chevrolet Traverse driven by a city police Sergeant
The report said the collision sent the officer’s SUV crashing into a 2018 Nissan Maxima.
Lasorda was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he later died a short time later.
The crash happened in the city, but Boca Raton police asked the sheriff’s office to investigate, sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
The city police sergeant was taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He has been released and is on paid administrative leave, city police spokesman said. He said the SUV was heavily damaged.
The police sergeant is the son of a retired Boynton Beach police chief.
The driver of the third vehicle, a 58-year-old man of suburban Boca Raton, was not injured, the report said.
