Alcohol Induced Lamborghini Crash Kills One

Near downtown Delray Beach, a tragic automobile accident resulted in an elderly Boynton Beach man’s death.

Roger Wittenberns and his girlfriend were heading home after an afternoon of drinking in the downtown area when Wittenberns proceeded to collide with another vehicle. The victim, J. Gerald Smith, an 82-year-old Uber driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Wittenberns and his girlfriend were operating their matching yellow sports cars at the time of the incident and were reportedly driving at high speeds. After the accident, Wittenberns’ girlfriend, Patty Ann McQuggin, abandoned her yellow sports car at a nearby pizza shop and fled the scene. Police later located her at the home she shares with Wittenberns. However, she refused to give an official statement about the incident.

While no criminal charges have been pressed, police state that speeding and alcohol played important roles in the accident. The investigation is still ongoing and all evidence will be turned over to the State Attorney’s Office to decide whether they are going to pursue charges.

Driving under the influence severely impairs motor functions and visibility, both of which are imperative to operating a motor vehicle.
